A Texas County man will spend 10 years in a federal prison after pleading guilty to mailing a pipe bomb to the West Plains Police Department.
Donald W. Schamber, 60, of southwest Texas County, pleaded guilty last week to charges of mailing a pipe bomb with the intent to injure another person. Schamber admitted that he mailed a pipe bomb. An alert postal carrier found the package in a mail collection box June 1 and was suspicious. U.S. Attorney John Wood said the device was designed to explode upon opening of the box.
Authorities said Schamber mailed the pipe bomb in an attempt to incriminate his ex-wife’s husband in an attempt to restore the suspect’s relationship with her. Schamber also deposited the remnants of the items used to make the bomb in his ex-wife’s yard as part of the plot.
Wood said Schamber must serve the full term, which is the maximum sentence for the violation.
Among the agencies assisting in the investigation was the Texas County Sheriff’s Department.
