Carol Lee Hood Wantland, 69, daughter of Hugh Doyle and Ola Mae Lewis Hood, was born Nov. 16, 1938, at Noble, Ark. She died Feb. 15, 2008, at her home at Licking.

She loved to cook, research family history and work with the computer.

She and her husband enjoyed gardening and canning and planning family gatherings. They operated a donut shop for many years. She loved selling White medal detectors, using them in her treasure hunting.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Jewel Dean, Pauline Hood Hartsfield and Doris B. Hood Higgins; and older brother, Darrell Hood.

Surviving are her husband, Donald Roger Wantland of the home; one son, Donnie of Licking; three daughters, Sherry Wantland Marsh of Fort Worth, Texas, Deborah Wade of Licking and Shannon Ward of O’Fallon; four brothers, John Hood of Troy, Howard Hood of Eldon and Byron and Ronnie Hood of Licking; three sisters, Francis Dixon of Bowling Green and Barbara Fudge and Alma Labbee of Licking; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were Feb. 18 at the Vollmar Cemetery with the Rev. Wesley Wallace officiating under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
