Laura Opal Smith DeWitt, 87, daughter of Jack and Artie Gale Smith, was born March 13, 1920, at Hartshorn. She died Jan. 19, 2008, at Texas County Memorial Hospital.

She married Albert Kinserlow. They had nine children. She later married Marvin DeWitt.

Mrs. DeWitt loved cooking big dinners, making quilt tops and being outside riding in her golf cart.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands; four sons, Elvin “Pete” Kinserlow, Ernest “Gene” Kinserlow, Kenny Kinserlow and Utah Smith; one daughter, Ada McConnaughhay; five brothers, Johnny, Orville, Charlie, Norman and Carl; three sisters, Goldie, Susie and Maretha; and three grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters, Betty Marquitz and Mary Gaston of Eunice; two sons, David Kinserlow of Holts Summit and Walter Kinserlow of Houston; three sisters, Christy Cook of Hartshorn, Virgie Belback of Raymondville and Freda Arl of Bunker, 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services were Jan. 22 at the Duncan Funeral Home at Summersville with the Rev. Gary Steelman officiating. Burial was in the Union Chapel Cemetery at Eunice.
