Ula Gladis Edwards Garman, 83, daughter of Richard S. Courtney and Clara Martin Courtney, was born July 19, 1924, at Raymondville. She died Feb. 14, 2008, at Mountain View Health Care.

She married Floyd Ray Edwards Nov. 20, 1941. They had one son.

After her husband’s death, she married Herbert F. Garman June 21, 1958.

Mrs. Garman was saved at Valley Center Baptist Church and went to the Raymondville Baptist Church for many years.

The Garmans lived in the St. Louis area, where she was a homemaker. She and her husband moved back to the Hartshorn area in 2000.

She loved to knit and make sweaters and coats. She made quilts and crafts of all kinds. She collected hens on the nest and had approximately 600 in her collection. She loved to dance.

After the death of her husband, she became too ill to live alone and moved to Mountain View Health Care.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son, Norman Edwards; brother, Herschel Courtney; and two sisters, Fern Ross and Beulah Warlow.

Surviving are a grandson, Mark Phillip Turner of Frankfort; two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and Larry Blake and family, she helped raise.

Services were Feb. 17 at the Bradford Funeral Home Chapel in Summersville with the Rev. Gary Steelman officiating. Burial was in the Antioch Cemetery at Hartshorn.
