Paul Herman “Jiggs” McGuire, 77, son of Jim and Gertie McGuire, was born Aug. 18, 1930, at Shenandoah, Iowa. He died March 15, 2008, at Houston House Nursing Center.

He married Anita Jaramillo Jan. 28, 1951. They had three children.

He was a private in the U.S. Marine Corps, enlisting in 1952.

Mr. McGuire was a natural born mechanic and applied his skills at several area businesses. He and Dale Stilley were co-owners of Wayne’s Garage. Mr. McGuire helped with the construction of Brown’s Shoe Co. facility and was a machinist there until the plant closed.

He was proud to be a part of the Green Thumb program with the forest service, where he worked after retiring from the shoe factory.

He had three loves: playing music with the Country Bumpkins, the outdoors and spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bob McGuire; and sister, Darlene Evans.

Surviving are his wife of Houston; son, Bill McGuire of Houston; two daughters, Marcia Hansen of Springfield and Sherry Lewis of Houston; and three grandchildren.

Memorial services are 6 o’clock Tuesday evening at the First Christian Church in Houston with Jeff Moore officiating under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Houston House staff who cared for Mr. McGuire, making his life with Alzheimer’s much easier.
