Marven F. Bowen, 87, son of Hugh and Mary Culpen Bowen, was born July 6, 1920, in Texas County. He died March 23, 2008, at his home at Atchison, Kan.
He married Opal P. Kitchen Sept. 20, 1945, in Texas County. They moved to Atchison in 1949.
Mr. Bowen worked for more than 36 years at Midwest Solvents as a still house operator. He retired in 1985.
He was a member of Local Union #74, a former board member and past president of Sumner School board and Sumner Cemetery board.
He enjoyed carpentry, radio and television repair, bee keeping, fishing and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his wife Oct. 24, 2000; his parents; two brothers, Carl and Ira Bowen; and one sister, Pearl Bowen.
Surviving are three sons, Jearald R. Bowen, Daryl E. Bowen and Joe Bowen of Atchison, Kan.; a daughter, Lisa Tull of Atchison, Kan.; four sisters, Elsie Wake of White Salmon, Wash., Irene Breen of Eureka, Calif., Louise Schmidt of Phoenix, Ariz., and Lillie Hundley of Rushville; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services were March 26 at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Hollingsworth officiating. Burial was in the Sumner Cemetery at Atchison, Kan.
Memorials may be made to the Sumner Cemetery Association or Alzheimer’s Association in care of the funeral home.
