A 66-year-old man who said he purchased some bank checks at yard sale is in trouble with the law this week.
The man, who has not been charged yet and no name has been released, told lawmen he went to a Keenview Drive sale and received the checks at the sale. The account is in the name of “Missouri Assn. of County Commissioners.”
The suspect then passed the checks on to help those in need. Nice gesture, but the account hasn’t existed in years, and the man now faces forgery charges. police said.
One $500 check went to the Texas County Food Pantry and another was used to pay $500 to Intercounty Electric Cooperative. A Houston woman, 31, also will likely be charged for attempting to pass a worthless document.
