Houston baseball players A.J. Castleman and Eli Smith were released from the West Plains hospital Tuesday night after colliding in the seventh inning of the Tigers’ 20-19 loss at Thayer.

The collision occurred on a pop-up in shallow right field. Smith, was playing second base and Castleman was in right field.

Houston coach Brent Hall said Smith’s head hit Castleman near the collarbone. Both had hurt knees, and Smith’s mouth was bleeding.

Both players were taken by ambulance to the hospital and released two hours later.

“They’re going to be sore, but luckily they’re OK,” said Hall, who won’t play either player the rest of the week.

The Tigers (6-8) defeated rival Licking 11-1 Thursday. They lost to Hartville 11-1 Monday in the first of this week’s four games in five days.
