Ray Raymond “Jack” Hayes, 77, son of Raymond W. and Grace Kinserlow Hayes, was born June 23, 1930, at Raymondville. He died April 16, 2008, in Springfield.

He married Sylvia Brannam June 2, 1954. They had 13 children.

At a young age, Mr. Hayes owned two trucks, hauling hay from Iowa, Illinois, Kansas and Oklahoma to Missouri. He was a lumber stacker for Cloud Oak Flooring and retired due to health problems after 32 years at Houston Wood Treating, where he was a foreman and manager.

He took pride in teaching his children and grandchildren to hunt, fish and trap. He enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family.

He was saved Aug. 9, 2000.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one son, William Ray.

Surviving are eight sons, Darrell Eugene of Wichita, Kan., Edward Wayne, Wesley May, Marvin Dwain, Richard Lynn, Ron R. and Billy Jack of Houston and Darrin Lee of Bucyrus; four daughters, Norma Cooksey of Sacramento, Calif., Marjorie Stroup of Houston, Patricia Hayes of Roseville, Calif., and Linda Garner of Licking; one brother, Elmer Hayes of Cabool; four sisters, Maxine Manley of Rolla, Marge Nelson of New London, Linda Barnwell of Springfield and Loretta May of Houston; 37 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Services were April 19 at the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wesley Wallace officiating. Burial was in the Ellis Prairie Cemetery.
