Douglas Adair McCartha, 64, son of Adair McCartha and Margie Price McCartha Shealy, was born July 16, 1943, at Lexington, S.C. He died May 16, 2008, at his home at Nebo as a result of heart disease.

He attended Lexington High School and Camden Military Academy in South Carolina and graduated from North Carolina State College in Raleigh, N.C.

He married Joyce Borneman June 20, 1970.

Mr. McCartha moved to Alaska in 1969 and was a bush pilot. In 1970, he was employed by the FAA as an air traffic controller and later as an inspection pilot working out of Fairbanks and Anchorage, Alaska, Atlanta, Ga., and Oklahoma City, Okla.

The McCarthas retired to Nebo and enjoyed raising horses.

Mr. McCartha was a member of Masonic Lodge #152 AF and AM in Lexington, S.C., United Methodist Church in Lithia Springs, Ga., and Missouri Fox Trotter Association at Ava..

He was preceded in death by his father.

Surviving are his wife of the home; mother of Gilbert, S.C.; and brother, Bob McCartha of Newberry, S.C.

Services were May 19 at the Pine Creek Baptist Church at Nebo with the Rev. Shannon L. Lewis officiating. Burial was in the Westwind Cemetery at Roby under the direction of Shadel’s Colonial Chapel of Lebanon.
