Jessica Herndon had a team-high three hits as the Houston Lady Tigers softball team completed a winning season Tuesday with a 16-6 five-inning victory against Winona.
Bethany Korte, Stephanie Dukes, Amber Postlewait, Shelbi Moore, Lyndsay Tarrants and Paulette Chernowsky all had two hits apiece for the Lady Tigers. Houston completed its regular season with a 6-3 record.
“Being a first-year coach with a second-year program, I was a little surprised at the success we had,” Lady Tigers coach Boulder McKinney said. “But they worked hard and earned it.”
Korte tripled and had four of Houston’s 18 stolen bases. Dukes doubled, tripled and knocked in two runs for the Lady Tigers, who scored eight times in the fifth inning to break open a close game.
Houston will return most of its players next season. Postlewait, Dukes and Whitney Sillyman are the lone graduating seniors.
“The future is bright for this program,” McKinney said.
The Houston JV lost its season finale to Winona 10-4 Monday night.
