Jonathan Page and the doubles team of Ashton Kell and William Jones advanced to the district quarterfinals Friday at Branson before losing.

Page, Houston’s top singles player, won his second-round match 6-4, 6-3 following a first-round bye. He was defeated 7-5, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.

Kell and Jones easily won their opening match 6-2, 6-2 before losing 6-2, 6-1 in the quarters.

Jeff Stilley lost his only match 6-1, 6-1. Andrew Finn and Emily Stubbs were defeated 6-0, 6-0.

The Tigers had 21 players this season – easily the most during coach John Jordan’s tenure. They finished with a 6-3 record.

“I’m proud of the kids. So many stayed after practice and hit on weekends to improve their game,” Jordan said. “Although we had two teams make it to the quarterfinals, they were disappointed in the way they played. We all felt we could have advanced deeper into the tournament.”

Houston loses five of its top seven players to graduation.

“All spots are open for next year,” Jordan said. “Those interested in playing varsity next year will play continuously throughout the summer.”
