Two musical groups will perform June 27 as part of the Houston Lions Club’s annual free fireworks show at the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Fairgrounds on North U.S. 63.
The event continues to grow annually, and this year the Houston Optimist Club is joining to assist the Houston Lions Club. Dozens of volunteers are required to stage the event.
Two nationally known groups, Highway 101 and Exile, will play at the grandstands at the fairgrounds.
At 6 p.m., Highway 101 takes to the stage. Over the last two decades, the group has enjoyed more than a dozen hits. Exile, which will perform at 8 p.m., evolved into country in 1983 with 21 country chart hits, including 10 No. 1 hits. It had 11 nominations for vocal or instrumental music group of the year.
The pre-buy price for the show is $5 for grandstand seating and $7 for special seating in front of the bands.
Those attending the show, one of the largest in southern Missouri, can enjoy the award-winning barbecue of Backwoods Barbecue of Mountain Grove. An amusement company will provide rides and games on the grounds on Thursday and Friday, June 26-27.
Profits from the various activities are placed in an account to help pay for each year’s show. Area merchants and individuals also donate to stage it.
The free fireworks extravaganza, contracted to a Richland firm that puts on displays throughout the country, is choreographed to music that can be heard from vehicles on the FM frequency of 88.7.
