Robert W. Close, 78, son of Hazel Easter and Wilmot R. Close, was born Sept. 3, 1929, at Brookfield. He died June 8, 2008, at Lester E. Cox Medical Center in Springfield.
Mr. Close retired from the U.S. Army after more than 20 years service. Among his awards and medals were a Bronze Star, Bronze Service Star for Vietnam and Oak Leaf Cluster Army Commendation Medal.
He married Erika Hornung June 8, 1963. They had two daughters.
He was the rural route mail carrier for Route 6 out of Houston and Bucyrus for about 26 years.
Surviving are his wife of the home at Ellis Prairie; two daughters, Gabriele Close of Wichita, Kan., and Cornelia Hice of Wahiawa, Hawaii; and one grandson.
Private family services and burial were held.
