Barbara Suoma Burkhart, 70, daughter of Edgar and Blanche Agee Price, was born Nov. 24, 1937, in Chicago, Ill. She died July 5, 2008, in a hospital in Altamounte Springs, Fla., following a lengthy battle with cancer.
She moved to Texas County at an early age and attended Vollmar School and Houston High School.
For the last 40 years, she and her husband, Bill, made their home in Orlando, Fla., where they designed and sold decorative wrought iron fixtures.
Mrs. Burkhart was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altamounte Springs and the Poetry Gems Society of Orlando. She published two books of poetry and had selections chosen for the Smithsonian International Library of Poetry.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; one brother, Robert Price; and three sisters, her twin, Beatrice Ryan, Sheila Ramsbottom and Charlotte VanDeusen.
Surviving are one son, Gary Curtner of Houston; two daughters, Suoma Coleman and Pamela Koskela of Orlando, Fla.; one brother, Jerry Price of Dennison, Texas; two sisters, Blanche Archer and Georgia Maxwell of Jamesport; a stepbrother, Larry VanDeusen of Licking; a stepsister, Shirley Umfleet of Edgar Springs; and six grandchildren.
Memorial services were July 15 at the First Baptist Church in Altamounte Springs, Fla., with burial in the Altamounte Springs Cemetery.
