Elvin Luther Fulks, 81, son of Thomas Luther and Mary Emma Jarvis Fulks, was born Nov. 30, 1926, at Plato. He died July 15, 2008, at Harry S Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia.

He graduated from Plato High School and entered the Army, serving in World War II in the 5th Army in Germany. After his discharge, he worked in the adjutant general’s office at Fort Leonard Wood.

He married Nellie Mae Haney Aug. 1, 1951. They had two sons.

Mr. Fulks was a licensed insurance agent, selling mostly life insurance to the military. Due to his ill health, he retired in 1991.

He was baptized as a young man in the Roubidoux River by Preacher Earl Sickler and was a member of the First Christian Church. He enjoyed outdoor work, especially gardening and raising tomatoes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Alvin D., Cecil L., Earl M., Thomas S. and Robert W. Fulks; and one sister, Grace Luck.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years of Houston; his sons, Mark Allen of Michigan and Lynn Elvin of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and one granddaughter.

Services were July 19 at the First Christian Church in Houston with Paul Hamm officiating. Burial with full military rites was in the Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church or Oak Hill Cemetery Association.
