The Houston Community Foundation met Monday, July 7, at the Texas County Health Department to discuss contributions for the Harry Cooper Supply Co. Campaign for the Ozarks, which matches local dollars as well as a new Houston Community foundation Web site and an October Fun Run.

Donations have been received and are needed to match the Harry Cooper Supply Co. Campaign for the Ozarks, which is designed to build and strengthen the community-based philanthropy efforts of nearly 40 regional affiliate community foundations. This $25,000 matching grant, made possible by the generosity of the Harry Cooper Supply Co., provides a dollar-for-dollar challenge grant as a part of an overall regional effort to:

* Enhance community grant making endowments

* Establish administrative/operations endowments

* Promote appropriate and best practices by community foundation board

The Houston community has until Dec. 31 to raise $25,000 to double its community giving power.

The group reviewed the new Houston Community Foundation Web site. It may be viewed at www.houstoncommunityfoundation.com and will be ready by July 20.

Plans for the second annual Fun Run Oct. 18 at Emmett Kelly Park were finalized. Invitations to area runners were mailed. The annual run is designed for the whole family to run or walk in age-appropriate categories, receive a T-shirt and pin, as well as help the community foundation continue to serve Houston. Medals will be given to first, second and third place in the youngest category and medals for first place in additional categories. A trophy will be given to the master female runner and master male runner.

The Houston Community Foundation was established in April 2006 by a group of community members as an affiliate of Community Foundation of the Ozarks. Janet Lockman, president, presided at the meeting.

Members attending were Janet Lockman, Susan Warkentin, Toni Coomes, Don Shelhammer, Sharon Rees, Jay Gentry, Elaine Campbell, Ron Reed and special guest, Carol Silvey.
