Houston’s Planning and Zoning Commission gave approval Tuesday for a plan that will bring new housing to the community.
The panel’s okay of the new subdivision – situated off Oak Hill Drive – is the first in a series of steps. Members of the Houston City Council are expected to review documents next month for the subdivision that includes 20 lots on an eight-acre parcel. Plans call for construction of duplexes by the Friend family of Licking. The property was recently purchased from the Nichols family.
The Friends also own Sugar Maple duplexes off Holder Drive.
It’s the second subdivision on the drawing boards in Houston. Another one is under development – single-family homes – at Holder Drive and North Industrial Drive.
The matter was among topics discussed Monday by the Houston City Council, which also received an update on plans on the extension of Thomasville Road to Holder Drive and beyond. City Administrator Larry Sutton said the city is completing some sewer work and installing drop inlets. Rock work on the new street may begin later this week.
Along the project route, workmen discovered some wet spots, and those areas are being addressed by the contractor and the city’s engineering firm, Sutton reported.
In other matters, members:
-Heard that the process of developing a 2009 budget is under way. Department heads are to return their requests to city hall by Aug. 4.
-Authorized raising the city administrator’s purchase limit without council approval to $7,500 from $2,500.
-Learned that the city received an additional $1,527 in aid related to an ice storm earlier this year.
-Heard that the city is working on a mutual assistance agreement between itself and the Houston Rural Fire Association. Each would help the other in the event additional assistance is required.
