Monday, July 21, marks the grand opening of “Houston’s Legendary,” a new restaurant and lounge that hopes to provide Texas County residents with a relaxing atmosphere and great food.

Houston’s Legendary is located on Sam Houston Boulevard and adjoins the recently renovated Horse Creek Inn, formerly the Lazy L. For its owners, Andrea and Pony Boy Morrell, the eatery is the couple’s second major project on busy Highway 63.

For the past five months, the Morrells have focused their energies to remodel the existing building as well as adding an additional 2,000 square feet of new dining areas. On this past Friday, Houston’s Legendary hired its 51st employee.

The Morrells moved to the area two years ago from St. Augustine, Fla. Pony Boy is a best selling author and horse behaviorist and Andrea is an accomplished marketer who has worked in several major markets.

“We serve high quality food at reasonable prices in an elegant atmosphere,” said Andrea Morrell of the couple’s latest venture. “We want to provide guests with exceptional food, clean entertainment and family fun.”

The Morrells are planning a full schedule of musical acts, both acoustic artists and bands, in a completely non-smoking environment… a first for the Houston area. Two outdoor patios offer smoking areas for those who wish to smoke while enjoying a meal. Their 2,000 square foot dining area will also be available for meetings, weddings, parties, reunions and other group functions.

Guests will also find something new for the Houston area: the ability to make reservations for lunch and supper. The couple said Monday that they are encouraged by their guest’s responses and suggestions and are tailoring their menu to local tastes and preferences. The restaurant opens at 11 a.m. seven days a week for lunch and supper and offers a late night menu in their lounge and outdoor areas.
