A standoff ended Sunday night with the arrest of a Houston man on charges he held two women hostage and fired a shot at officers.

Texas County Sheriff Carl Watson said his department received an 8:10 p.m. call from a woman who said her boyfriend was drunk and threatening to shoot people just north of Houston. When deputies arrived, they found two women had been held against their will and assaulted by the man. One of the victims managed to flee the home through the back door while the other remained.

The man, George T. Wilcox, 58, 8205 Northview Lane, #36, brandished a handgun and told the remaining victim he would shoot anyone who attempted to apprehend him, Watson said.

As deputies and officers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol formed a perimeter around the house, Wilcox exited the house and fired a shot at them before stepping inside, Watson said.

For about 90 minutes, officers were unable to make contact with Wilcox. Watson said at one point Wilcox left the house, got into a truck and attempted to leave, but deputies blocked the roadway. As he backed his truck near the house, a deputy deployed a Taser against Wilcox, and he was arrested.

Wilcox, who was free on bond stemming from a May 28 arrest for sale and possession of a controlled substance, is charged with two counts of assault and assault of a law enforcement officer. Bond is set at $100,000.

Records show he posted $20,000 in bond from the earlier drug charges and entered a guilty plea to being a persistent DWI offender in 2007.
