The rising cost of food has Texas County residents growing and preserving produce from their gardens this summer.

University Extension will offer a food preservation class at 5 p.m. July 29 at its office at 1418 S. Sam Houston Blvd. behind St. John’s Clinic.

Cammie Younger, nutrition and health education specialist and county program director, said Debo’s Hardware in Houston gave a 16-quart pressure canner that made the class possible.

Persons interested in the class can call 417-967-4545. Class size is limited, and registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
