Vernon Dawane Forrest Breedlove, 73, son of Ernest and Leona May Brooks Breedlove, was born Nov. 25, 1934, at Lynchburg. He died June 24, 2008, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston.
He grew up in the Lynchburg and Roby area, attending the Sycamore School at Lynchburg.
He joined the Navy May 7, 1954, and was discharged May 6, 1958. He served aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Mr. Breedlove was a tree trimmer in the St. Louis and Kansas City areas for many years.
He loved being outdoors, fishing and hunting squirrels. He was a singer and guitar player, writing a song that was recorded. He loved going to church, sharing his talent of singing and playing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings, Ernest Breedlove Jr., William Breedlove, Vivian Campbell, Leo Breedlove, Charles Breedlove, Lester Breedlove and David Breedlove.
Surviving are two brothers, Daniel of Lynchburg and Donald of Bucyrus; and one sister, Joyce Carmack of Roby.
Services were June 27 at the Roby Assembly of God with Bob Troutt officiating. Burial was in the Mount Pisgah Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home of Houston.
