Sales taxes collected by Houston merchants shot upward during the latest month distribution, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue.
The tally from a one-cent sales tax skyrocketed to $44,997, an increase of $27,680 from the same period a year ago. For the year, $366,602 has been collected. That’s an increase of $31,396 for the year.
The city also has two quarter-cent sales taxes earmarked for street and utility improvements. Each generated about $11,000, which was up more than $6,900 each from the same period a year ago.
For the year, $88,200 has been collected from each. That’s up about 9 percent on both from the same period a year ago.
An eighth-cent sales tax for debt repayment on a fire truck totaled $5,531, which is up $3,464 from the same period a year ago.
Texas County’s sales taxes also showed strength. The tally from a half-cent sales tax collected since the early 1980s totaled $68,029, which is up $23,710 from the same period a year ago. For the first seven months of the year, $543,663 has been collected. That’s an increase of $12,414 from a year ago.
