Mary Elizabeth Webber Colgan, 84, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home in Bristol, Conn.
She was born Dec. 21, 1923, in Winchendon, Mass., daughter of Thaddeus F. and Rose McGowen Webber. She married Philip Colgan in 1946 while working as a secretary in the Pentagon.
She was a devout Catholic and stay-at-home mom who raised a family of 12 children.
She retired with her husband in the early 1970s and moved to Missouri, where she loved growing flowers, attending church activities and watching birds. The cardinal was her favorite.
She returned to New England in 2002 following the death of her husband.
Survivors include four sisters, Helena Tetreault of Walpole, Mass., Teresa Mulcahy of Neptune Beach, Fla., Jane Webber of Winchendon, Mass., and Agnes Thompson of Pawcatuck, Conn; two brothers, John Webber of Rexford, N.Y., and William Webber of Ashburnham, Mass.; 12 children, James Colgan and Rosemarie Colgan of Torrington, Conn., Mary Strojni of Athol, Mass., Richard Colgan of Sandgate, Vt., Patricia Courtemanche of Burlington, Conn., Philip Colgan of New Hartford, Conn., Kathleen Perol of Troy, Maine; Robert Colgan of Harwinton, Conn., Michael Colgan of Lake Ozark, Maureen Aldridge of Macomb, Molly McKinney of Houston and Thomas Colgan of Bucyrus; 36 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; a brother, Thaddeus W. Webber; and a sister, Kathleen Grogan.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church with Father Matthew Rehrauer officiating. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at Evans Funeral Home. Burial is in Pine Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
