Donald Austin Stringer, 75, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

He was born July 29, 1933, in Hartshorn, son of William Jefferson and Eva Ethel

Ireland Stringer. He and Vivian Marjorie Smith were married June 19, 1955.

He retired in 1995 from Craig Charcoal, where he operated a forklift. He raised pigs and small animals on his farm and attended Hartshorn Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing his guitar.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three infant siblings.

Survivors include his wife of the home; four children, Warren Stringer of Kissee Mills, Dorvan Stringer and Greg Stringer of Summersville and Lisa Cooley of Lebanon; five sisters, Ruthene Gift of St. Charles, Nadine Michel and Glenda Stoops of Hartshorn, Macel Anderson of Broken Bow, Neb., and Norma Burch of Houston, a brother, Doug Stringer of Hartshorn; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Services were Sunday, Nov. 2, at Bradford Funeral Home with the Rev. Dorvan Stringer and the Rev. Gary Steelman officiating. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery.
