Gene Coy Floyd, 83, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at his home in Houston.
He was born June 30, 1925, in Montauk, son of Charley and Lura Nelson Floyd. He married Wanda Jean Haney in 1949.
He helped build houses in St. Louis and Fort Leonard Wood and enjoyed working in the timber. But his first love was farming. He loved watching cattle graze, calves run through the field and putting up hay.
He gave his life to the Lord in 1960 and was active in building the First Free Will Baptist Church. He served as a deacon and board member for many years until his health failed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Delmar, Dolph and Udel; and two sisters, Mattie and Doris.
Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Roy Gene Floyd of Solo and Jimmy Lee Floyd of Houston; a daughter, Linda Sue White of Springfield; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Nettie Evans of Licking, Clemmie Morton of Houston and Ruth Ray of Springfield.
Services were Tuesday, Oct. 28, at First Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Sousley and the Rev. Gary Davenport officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
