Members of the Houston City Council heard Monday that city government may know by the end of the week whether it qualifies for aid related to flood damage in September.

Administrator Larry Sutton said Houston could receive up to 75 percent reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Administration. The city earlier reported damage to walking trails and other infrastructure as the result of heavy rain that fell on the region after Hurricane Ike struck Texas.

Sutton also reported that representatives of Scott Engineering, the Missouri Department of Transportation and the city met last week to launch another phase of the Village Trail. This segment is in and around U.S. 63. Work will begin in late January or early February. Another stretch – near Spruce Street – also was reviewed last week as part of preliminary work.

In other matters, members:

-Heard from Tiffany Wood of Fort Leonard Wood, who gave an update on activities at the Pulaski County military installation.

-Learned that the city received only a single bid for its auditing services. Davis, Lynn and Moots, Springfield, the current firm the city uses, submitted a proposal.

-Heard that interviews will begin soon for a vacancy in the water department.

-Accepted a Houston Planning and Zoning Commission recommendation to replat Westridge Estates. The decision will move a portion of a road, allowing the developer to comply with the city’s zoning ordinance.
