U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson last week was one of three Missourians to receive the “Outstanding Service to Agriculture Award” from Missouri Farm Bureau.
“I’m truly honored to get an award like this. I really take the challenges our Missouri farmers face to heart, and I work very hard in Washington to make sure they have the support they need to continue the wonderful work they do,” Emerson said. “When I can have a conversation about agriculture with one of my colleagues from an urban or a suburban district and know that they walk away with a better understanding of how important American agriculture is to our economy, our security and our way of life, I consider that time well spent. The more Americans know about where our food comes from, the better policies we can put in place to keep family farmers in business.”
Emerson sits on the Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee in the U.S. House of Representatives. Some of her key advocacy issues are food exports to Cuba, renewable energy, implementation of the Farm Bill and rural development.
