Delmer Tuttle, 82, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at St. John’s Hospital.

He was born Feb. 17, 1926, in Summersville, son of Grover Tuttle and Annie Powell Tuttle. He and Ruth Stark were married July 2, 1949, in Salem, Ark.

He served with the Navy during World War II from May 9, 1944, to Jan. 21, 1946, earning Asiatic Pacific 5 Stars, Philippine Liberation Bronze Star and a Victory Medal.

Upon leaving the Navy, he worked for eight years in St. Louis before buying a farm in Summersville. He did a variety of jobs, including milking cows, cutting cordwood, building fences, working at the pallet mill and farming.

He was a long-time member of the Hartshorn Church of Christ and recently attended the Church of Christ at Flat Rock.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Glenn Tuttle, Elmer Tuttle and Gloster Tuttle; two sisters, Alice Jones and Gladys Tuttle; and a great-granddaughter.

Survivors include his wife of the home; two daughters, Karen McAdams of Summersville and Sharon Cook of Hartshorn; three sons, Roy Tuttle, Don Tuttle and Gary Tuttle, all of the Summersville area; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bessie Brawley and Wilma Breeding of the Summersville area; and a host of nieces, nephews and many other family members and friends.

Services were Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Bradford Funeral Home with Brother Tom Dennis officiating. Burial was in Summersville City Cemetery with full military honors.
