A Houston City Council member resigned Monday, citing her intentions to move from the community.

Marla Murphy, who serves in Ward I, stepped down at a council meeting. She purchased a home at Cabool.

Mayor Steve Hutcheson appointed Bill Nichols, a state retiree, to fill the post until April when Murphy’s term expires. Earlier, Sharon Sillyman filed for the seat, which is a two-year term.
