Doyle D. Nelson, 74, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, at Phelps County Regional Medical Center.

He was born July 10, 1934, near Montauk, son of Delbert D. and Iva Shipp Nelson. He and Emily Herin were married June 11, 1955.

He attended elementary school at Shipp School, a one-room school near his family home, before transferring to Licking. He was an active member in FFA and lettered in basketball and baseball before graduating in 1953.

He served two years in the Army before working 37 years as a lineman, foreman and operations technician at Intercounty Electric Cooperative. He received the A.C. Burrows Award from the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives for his distinguished service.

He was baptized at a young age and was a member of Shipp Memorial Church. He later transferred his membership to Licking United Methodist Church.

He loved fishing and was an avid baseball fan. He coached Little League several years. He and his wife enjoyed trips to Branson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lloyd.

Survivors include his wife, Emily of Licking; two sons, Brian Nelson of Licking and Bradley Nelson of St. Louis; a daughter, Brenda Nelson of Richland; a brother, Jim Nelson of Licking; seven grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services were Friday, Feb. 6, at Licking United Methodist Church with Pastor John Maynard and Pastor Connie Bell officiating. Burial was in Boone Creek Cemetery under the direction of Fox Funeral Home.
