'Herald on the Go' brings local news to your cell phone

A new service announced by the Houston Herald will bring breaking news to your cell phone or PDA in a matter of minutes.

‘Herald on the Go’ is a free service that will send news to your mobile device as it happens. You’ll know it all in seconds.

It’s the news your way. You only receive the updates you want. Users have their choice of categories and sub-categories to receive alerts:

-News: Breaking news and emergency alert information for our area and around the nation.

-Weather alerts: The local weather forecast each morning and severe weather advisories and warnings for Texas County.

-Community information: Reminders about local events.

-Sports news: Houston Tigers and Lady Tigers scores.

-Text deals: Valuable coupons and special offers from local businesses

-School closings: Announcements from each local school in the area.

-Death notices: Today’s service information from Evans Funeral Home.

Text messages are not only the wave of the future – they are now. According to recently released statistics, more than 65 percent of the American population owns a cell phone and 85 percent of people 18-34 actively use text messaging.
