Members of the Houston City Council purchased a new police car and hired an employee for its curbside recycling program during a meeting Monday.

Honeycutt Chevrolet of Houston was awarded the $19,900 bid for a new vehicle to join the police department’s fleet. The city later expects to sell an old police car, dump trunk and another city vehicle with the proceeds going to replace an aging car used by the city administrator.

In other matters, members:

-Received word from U.S. Sen. Kit Bond’s office that federal stimulus monies sought by the city as it plans a new wastewater treatment plan will likely be disbursed through the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

-Learned that lettering is being added to a new bus acquired for the city’s transit system. The unit it is replacing will go to Opportunity Sheltered Industries.

-Heard that developer Jim Friend will soon begin curb and guttering on about 500 feet of roadway in a new Oak Hill Subdivision under construction.

-Were told that about 25 percent of the concrete has been poured for walking trails in Emmett Kelly Park before bad weather struck.
