Texas County’s volunteer fire departments have formed The Texas County Chief Association, which is aimed at discussing and solving mutual problems and concerns.

At a recent meeting, those gathered discussed a county-wide automatic mutual aid agreement. If approved, the agreement would improve fire protection for all members, said Rueben Roedeske, secretary of the new organization.

A four-number system to identify all emergency responders in the county also was discussed. Roedeske said most departments feel it would lead to improving radio traffic.

Twelve of the 13 departments in the county have attended meetings, and the association wants input from each one.

The next meeting is 7 p.m. April 20 at the Texas County Justice Center on North Grand Avenue. All interested parties are invited, but only chiefs or a designated representative can conduct business.
