Texas County Commissioner John Casey returned home Thursday from a Springfield hospital after undergoing brain surgery for an aneurysm earlier this month.

Casey, the county’s associate commissioner for District 1 that includes Houston and Cabool, is expected to recuperate at his home during the next month. He is undergoing various forms of therapy.

Casey arrived in Cox South’s emergency room on April 6, where a scan showed a leaking brain aneurysm. Relatives said there are only 200 neuro-vascular surgeons in the country, including one in Springfield.

He spent two weeks in the neuro trauma intensive care unit before relocating to the neuroscience wing and receiving physical, speech and occupational therapies.

His family said Monday that they were grateful for all of the support given to them. “It is this type of support from the community that enforces our reasons for living in a rural area such as this,” according to a written statement released Monday.

Primrose Casey said there are many rules and regulations that her son must follow during his first month at home; then it is anticipated there will be an easing of that, and he will return to his normal daily routine. The process is expected to take three or four months, but a full recovery is expected.
