Reports from the City of Houston show sales up in the latest monthly period, according to the Missouri Department of Revenue.
The tally from a one-cent sales tax was $52,711, which is up $3,300 from the same period a year ago. That’s an increase of about 6.6 percent from the same period in 2008. For the year, the total is $167,256, up about 2 percent from a year ago.
Collections from two quarter-cent sales taxes earmarked for roads and sidewalks, as well as utilities, also were up. The total on each was $12,284, which is up about $775 from a year ago on each.
Revenue from an eighth-cent sales tax earmarked for debt repayment on a fire truck was $6,142.
The reports are considered a good barometer of economic activity.
