Ozarks Public Television tuned off its analog transmitters at midnight Tuesday.
At 11:59 p.m. March 31, both KOZK Springfield and KOZJ Joplin were converted to digital-only operations. OPT was the second major station in Springfield to make the switch; KSPR ceased analog transmission Feb. 17.
“This is the biggest change that television has undergone in its history,” said Dr. Arlen Diamond, director of broadcast services at Missouri State University. “We, along with the other stations in the market, have worked hard to inform our viewers about the change. We feel confident that the vast majority of local viewers are prepared and that it is time to complete our transition.
“We regularly hear from viewers who are surprised and pleased to learn that digital television means more viewing options,” Diamond added.
In addition to OPT’s main service, the station offers two additional channels: OPT ED, which offers educational programming for viewers of all ages; and OPT CREATE, which provides lifestyle programming such as cooking, crafting, sewing and travel.
