A Houston resident has admitted her involvement in the theft and use of a debit card stolen from a local apartment, Houston police said.

Antonio Torres, 47, of 215 Chestnut Terrace, admitted taking a debit card belonging to Wanda L. Sheridan, 61, of 218 Chestnut Terrace. Police said the card was used to purchase a carton of cigarettes for $45.77. Two ATM withdrawals were made within a three-minute period totaling $101.50 each. The funds, she told police, were used for dining and liquor.

A search of Torres’ apartment uncovered a ball cap bearing a “bebe” logo tucked into some stacked articles of clothing. Surveillance video showed someone using the ATM machine wearing a cap with those words on it.

According to a report, Torres admitted that she had the victim’s PIN number written down on a piece of paper from previous occasions when she had used the card with permission.

Torres, who is charged with fraudulent use of a credit/debit device, told police said she has since thrown the number away and cut the card into pieces before flushing it down the toilet in her apartment.

Torres also was arrested on a Phelps County warrant charging her in December with theft/stealing.
