Individuals seeking preparation for disasters are invited to Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training planned for April 23-26 in Houston.
The program educates people about disaster preparedness and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, as well as disaster medical operations. Using their training, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event and can take an active role in preparing their community.
The training is 6 to 10 p.m. April 23 and 24, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 25 and 1 to 4:30 p.m. April 26.
To gain certification, persons must attend the entire 20-hour class. The Sunday session includes an exercise – with volunteers and CERT members – that allows participants to use their training. Persons over the age of 18 are accepted for training. Those 16 to 18 need parental approval.
