Wilma Irene Ingram Hancock, 86, died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at St. John’s Hospital.

She was born April 18, 1923, in Simmons, daughter of Garrett and Mavis Bartch Ingram. She and Herchel Hancock were married Nov. 21, 1945, in Houston by judge C.C. Tuttle.

She was baptized at an early age and attended church at Simmons. In 1983, she transferred her membership to First Christian Church, where she had more than 30 years of perfect attendance until her health prevented her from attending.

She grew up and raised her family on a farm. She enjoyed riding the old Farmall tractor, plowing the fields, raising a large garden and canning all types of vegetables. She loved cooking, sewing and listening to country, western and gospel music.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Herchel; an infant daughter, Linda Lee; two brothers, Dean Ray and Max Ingram; and a sister, Ruthene Tucker.

Survivors include a daughter, Joanne Jones of Raymondville; a sister, Mabel Ward of Iowa; three granddaughters; and a great-granddaughter.

Graveside services were Monday, May 11, in Pine Lawn Cemetery with Wesley Wallace officiating. Services were under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
