Missouri State University’s campus in Mountain Grove will receive $20,700 in federal stimulus money to further its vineyard efforts.
It will benefit with a $20,700 investment to provide for specialized high tunnel horticulture equipment for the research farm. It will allow the 100-year-old research facility to provide demonstration and educational opportunities to growers and small businesses.
It maintains 30 acres of vineyards, and the high tunnel will show how the normal growing season can be extended utilizing natural solar energy.
The funds are provided by the USDA Rural Development’s Rural Business Enterprise Program, which helps finance new and existing businesses as well as employment-related adult education programs. The funds can be used for start-up and working capital loans, building and plant renovations, transportation improvements, project planning and other business needs.
MSU was among three entities in the state receiving funds.
