For the ninth consecutive year supporters of private property rights from around Missouri and surrounding states will converge in Cabool for an all-day conference Saturday. As in past years nationally known and authoritative speakers will address subjects of importance to private property owners,

According to Russell Wood president of the events sponsor, Ozarks Property Rights Congress, the theme this year will be how local citizens can deal with agencies which apply intrusive regulations on their property. Information will be brought as to the current status of an effort by the state DNR to classify streams and regulate them. This will affect normal agricultural practices on all rural property, DNR says.

A featured speaker will be Dr. Max Thornsberry, president of R-CALF U.S.A., whose organization is leading the fight on the national level against the National Animal Identification System. His national organization also works for private property rights.

State Sen. Chuck Purgason will deliver an inspirational speech from his perspective on protecting ourselves from agencies, Wood said.

Other speakers will include Ray Cunio and Bob Parker, who will address watershed issues as they effect private ownership. Doreen Hannes will speak on regulating normal gardening and home grown food practices. She will show how international treaties are now effecting proposed legislation to control citizens’ back yard gardens.

The recipient of this years REAL conservationist award will be named and time will be reserved for questions and comments from the audience near the end of the day, Wood said. OPRC events are open to all interested in preserving private property rights and admittance is free.

The 9 a.m. conference is at the Cabool Cinema II Theater on Highway 181 at the south edge of Cabool.
