Due to increasing prices and the current economic condition, the Jacks Fork Watershed Committee announced this week it has increased the maximum reimbursement amount on its septic pumping project.

The maximum has increased from $75 to $150 per household. The new total applies to all who have previously attended meetings and have had their septic tank pumped as well as new prospects.

The committee has already begun pumping at several locations within the watershed coverage area and says it is pleased with the response. The project technician works with the homeowners to make sure the process is quick and easy as possible and reimbursement is timely.

The group said it would happily meet with anyone unable to determine where they live on the watershed map. It said regular septic pumping is important for health and water quality.

The cost-share program is available to everyone within the Jacks Fork Watershed. Here are the details:

-First, determine if you live within the watershed.

-Attend a 30-45 minute educational meeting. It will cover tips to help you maintain and care for your septic, how often it should be pumped and why it is important. Meeting dates and times will be posted in area papers.

-Select a certified and insured septic pumper in the area. A list of those who are pre-approved will be provided.

-Have your tank pumped.

-Submit the bill, and you will be reimbursed up to half the cost or the maximum $150 reimbursement limit. (Examples: Cost is $200, reimbursement will be $100).

Funding is limited to the first 100 homeowners living in the Jacks Fork Watershed. Contact Teresa Acord, project technician, at 573-226-3131, 417-260-2501 or tknapp@centurytel.net for a seminar date.
