The mother of two children who drowned last month in the Big Piney River has been charged with failing to secure a child in restraint or booster seat, according to court documents.
The citation to Jennifer L. Bagley, which also included one for not wearing a seat belt, was issued May 25 by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and was recently filed in Texas County Associate Circuit Court. The charge came before the August drowning northwest of Licking.
Bagley’s two sons, ages 4 and 7, wandered from their home and were found the next day dead in the river following a massive search. No charges have been filed in the case. Records released by the Missouri Department of Social Services show numerous visits over the years to the Bagley household to investigate the care of the children.
