The Missouri State Highway Patrol announced two promotions within the agency last week that were effective Sept. 1.

Trooper Scott Nelson was promoted to the rank of corporal and designated the assistant zone supervisor of Zone 3, northern Howell and Shannon counties.

Nelson joined the patrol in 1994 as a member of the 67th recruit class and upon graduation was assigned to Howell County in Troop G. In 2006, he transferred to Zone 2, Texas County.

Also promoted was Cpl. J. Darron Wheeler, who is now the zone supervisor of Zone 9, commercial vehicle enforcement troopers and commercial vehicle enforcement officers.

Wheeler joined the patrol in 1999 as a member of the 76th recruit class and upon graduation was assigned to Taney County in Troop D, Springfield. In 2002, he transferred to Zone 6, southern Howell and Oregon counties in Troop G. Wheeler transferred to Zone 9 upon the creation of the position of CVET (commercial vehicle enforcement trooper) in Troop G earlier this year.

Wheeler is married to the former Amy Lott, and the couple has a son, Andrew, 7, and daughter, Emily, 4.
