Texas County Technical College has met certification requirements and will be a testing site for the National Healthcareer Association certification testing, the institution announced last week.

The NHA is an agency providing information resources, testing and continuing education for active office healthcare professionals. It has become the leading organization of its kind in the field of healthcare.

According to health care associations, the trend toward national certification is increasing. A substantial number of state agencies, hospitals and private practices already require national certification as a competency standard and it is a valuable asset in securing employment.

Barbara Romines, academic director at TCTC, said the first scheduled test date is Dec. 15. She said information on how to register can be found at www.NHANOW.com.

“All current and former students in the medical office assistant classes at TCTC are invited to register for the test date online with NHA,” Romines said. “We also welcome anyone working in the field of healthcare to feel free to register and take the test at our facility.”

Tests available at this time include: certified medical administrative assistant; certified billing and coding assistant; and certified billing and coding specialist/certified medical administrative assistant.

Study guides and information about the certifications are available at the NHA Web site. Dates for a short review course and the school testing code are available from Texas County Technical College by calling 417-967-5466.

“We hope the healthcare employers and employees of Houston and surrounding communities take advantage of this opportunity to obtain this national certification,” Romines said.
