The Houston Tigers lost their third consecutive game Friday night. More stinging is the loss of quarterback Kyle Jones.
Jones left the field on a stretcher early in the second quarter of the Tigers’ 33-7 loss Friday night to visiting Ava. Initial reports on the field were a broken collarbone.
Houston trailed 33-0 before getting its only points with 5:19 remaining when linebacker J.R. Knetzer returned a fumble 29 yards for a touchdown.
Ava rushed for 333 yards on 49 attempts – an average of 6.8 yards per carry. Brett Lambert led the charge with 16 carries for 178 yards, and Josh Wendler added 91 yards on 13 carries.
Justin Schmidt had 15 carries for 83 yards for the Tigers, who had 146 yards of total offense. Jones ran four times for 27 yards before he was injured at the end of a run near the Ava sideline.
Ridge Miller replaced Jones at quarterback and was 5-of-9 passing for 15 yards and an interception. He had minus-3 yards rushing on six carries.
