Jane Earnhart, a project manager with Scott Consulting Engineers in Springfield, left, opens a bid while Elaine Campbell, development director for the City of Houston, looks on Thursday.

Bids were opened Thursday for two additional stretches of the Village Trail in Houston.

The City of Houston earlier won funding through a program administered by the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Bids for two sections were opened.

Phase I – includes an area from West Highway 17, along U.S. 63 and includes sections of First Street and Grand Avenue.

Phase II – includes property from Grand Avenue to Emmett Kelly Park and a north leg that runs from Brushy Creek Trail to near the Texas County Justice Center.

A third leg will begin near the Houston Memorial Airport. Maggi Construction of Rolla is the contractor for the project, which is paid primarily using federal stimulus dollars.
