Liberty scored on its first play from scrimmage and cruised to a 42-6 victory Friday night against the Houston Tigers.
The Eagles led 35-6 at the half and scored on their second possession of the third quarter to start the mercy clock.
Liberty, which improved to 2-0 in district play, out-gained the Tigers 346-137.
Senior Justin Schmidt led Houston with 65 rushing yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Kyle Poynter was 6-of-25 passing for 39 yards and was picked off twice.
Jesse Setters’ 78-yard kickoff return to the Liberty 5-yard line set up Houston’s lone score. Two plays later, Schmidt scored from 4 yards away to make it 20-6.
The Tigers, who lost two fumbles and had four turnovers, complete the 2009 season Friday by hosting Cuba. The seniors will be recognized prior to the game.
