Alissa Bowlin scored 12 points and Taylor Franklin had 10 to lead the eighth grade girls past Ava 29-17 Friday night to win the Liberty Tournament championship.
Houston led 18-10 at the half before outscoring Ava 7-0 in the third quarter to take a comfortable lead.
“Winning a tournment is always a great feeling, especially going into the holiday,” Lady Tigers coach John Jordan said. “Our kids played hard but we didn’t shoot the ball very well. It seemed it would roll around and go out. This group is starting to move better without the ball also and understanding what we are trying to do offensively.”
SEVENTH: The seventh grade girls outscored Ava 10-5 in the second half en route to a 22-17 victory.
Kylee Elmore led the Lady Tigers with 10 points.
“By far the best game of the year,” Jordan said. “They moved the best they have moved all year without the ball, which led to open driving lanes for our kids. I felt our guards did a much better job of taking care of the ball.”
